COUNSELING AND PARENTING

Counseling and parenting services came to fruition out of the need to not only ensure Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County Club Members were safe and healthy during their time spent after school at the Clubs, but also beyond club hours. Through a partnership with Oaklawn and Family & Children’s Center, counseling is provided to Club Members at all five of the Boys & Girls Clubs of St. Joseph County sites. Services are provided through a comprehensive program that includes the following;
 
1.      Training on the effects of trauma on children for all Boys & Girls Club staff
2.      Support for staff in dealing with member behavioral issues
3.      Specialized Trauma Focused therapy training
4.      Integration of emotional and behavioral education/support into existing Boys & Girls Club programming
5.      Counseling/ Support services, including art therapy, play therapy , EMDR and TF-CBT to children identified as suffering from trauma
6.      Training in evidence based measurement tools to assess the outcomes
7.      General parenting programs  based on curriculum Common Sense Parenting
8.      Specialized trauma focused curriculum for parents of children in trauma
9.      Coaching and support for parents struggling with children’s behavioral and emotional health
