Healthy Families Family Support Specialist
Compensation: $14.00 to $15.00 hourly depending on education level, full benefit package
Status: Full-Time; Non-Exempt
Work Hours: 36-40 hours, including evenings and occasional weekends
Immediate Supervisor: Healthy Families Supervisor
A Family Support Specialist provides regular in-home visitation for enrolled families, for the Healthy Families Program. The Healthy Families Program promotes child well-being, parent-child bonding, and resilient healthy families through home visiting services.
JOB OBJECTIVE
To provide direct in home, strength-based services to adult and child Healthy Families St. Joseph County clients. To empower individuals and families through advocacy, education, and support, to prevent abuse and promote human growth and dignity. To follow standards and requirements set forth by Healthy Families Indiana and Healthy Families America.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Provide home visitation services to clients in St Joseph County.
• Assess family needs through mental health, development, and other screens.
• Follow agency procedure and provide appropriate follow up in instance of in-home crisis
• Provide service planning for Healthy Families clients.
• Provide brief and long-term supportive services and referral/linkages for families in the Healthy Families Program
to other community agencies for specific family needs.
• Maintain complete and up-to-date client records, within a 48-hour timeframe.
• Maintain the required 75% home visitation completion rate.
• Stay up to date on programs, agencies, and businesses available to Healthy Families assessment/home visit clients.
• Initiating and maintaining regular contact/support with families throughout their participation in the program.
• Be responsible for assisting the family in establishing goals and a plan for accomplishment of those goals, as well as
the assessment of the normal growth and development of the focus child.
• Allow flexibility in scheduling visits with families who have returned to school/work (evening visits)
• Address risk factors, stressors, and challenging issues that have been identified from the Family Resilience and
Opportunity for Growth Scale.
• Assess, address, and promote positive parent-child interactions and attachment and bonding to help parents
develop nurturing parent-child relationships.
• Complete all required home-based family support services as defined by Healthy Families.
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
• Participate in community events that further and support the Healthy Families Program and mission
• Attend all staff meetings, pertinent individual supervisions
• Attend all required Healthy Families Indiana meetings and trainings.
• Other duties as assigned by Healthy Families Supervisor or Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. (Non-degreed candidates may be required to fulfill additional training requirements in order to perform the essential functions).
Experience:
• Experience working with or providing services to children and family participants;
• Experience and humility in providing services to culturally diverse communities/families/participants and
acceptance of individual differences
• Experience and willingness to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity of introspective, communicating
awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)
• Knowledge of maternal-infant mental health and concepts of child abuse and neglect
• Infant mental health endorsement preferred
Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to build rapport quickly and easily with client families to support families in establishing healthy and trusting
relationships and bonds between caregivers and their children
• Ability to establish positive workplace relationships, function in a team environment, and demonstrate
acceptance of individual differences of colleagues
• Bilingual/especially Spanish-speaking abilities are a plus.
Skills:
• Assessment, evaluation, and treatment planning
• Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and database management.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

• Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, creativity, and flexibility.
• Maintain boundaries and good working relationships with all agency staff.
• Abide by strict code of confidentiality according to legal and professional standards.
• Maintain a high degree of sensitivity and responsiveness to client and staff needs.
• Carry out agency goals and policies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is hybrid and performed in client homes throughout the community of St Joseph County, some work is required to be completed in an office setting for mandatory meetings and special events, and some is remote doing documentation. Much of the reporting portions of the position can be completed remotely with flexible scheduling. During the training process remote work is limited. Assessment of children may involve bending, kneeling, and play activities on the floor. Will need reliable transportation to provide services in the home, attend meetings at locations other than Family & Children’s Center’s corporate offices. Family Support Specialists work in a team who are driven by compassion and impacting lives, with supportive supervisors who want staff to succeed.
