Status: Full-time; $15.00 - $16.00/hour with bachelor's degree; 40 hours/week; Non-Exempt

A Family Resource Specialist is the initial contact that assesses a referred family for qualification into the Healthy Families Program. The Healthy Families Program promotes child well-being, parent-child bonding, and resilient healthy families through home visiting services.
JOB OBJECTIVE
To provide home based services to adult and child clients in keeping with Family & Children’s Services mission to empower individuals and families through advocacy, education and support, in order to prevent abuse and promote human growth and dignity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• The FRS will provide the initial contact with a potential client and conduct the Welcome Visit conversation utilizing the
Family Resilience and Opportunity for Growth Scale.
• Provide appropriate referrals and linkage to community agencies and resources to support the ongoing needs of the families.
• Maintain complete and up-to-date screen records and referrals.
• Attend specific community committee meetings with partner agencies.
• Stay up-to-date on programs, agencies, and businesses available to Healthy Families assessment/home visit clients.
• Maintain up-to-date records regarding community resources.
• Assess family needs through mental health and interpersonal violence screens.
• Follow agency procedure and provide appropriate follow up in instance of in-home crisis
• Allow flexibility in scheduling assessments with families who have returned to school/work (evening visits)
ADDITIONAL JOB DUTIES
• Participate in community events that further and support the Healthy Families Program and mission
• Attend all staff meetings, pertinent individual supervisions
• Attend all required Healthy Families Indiana meetings and trainings.
• Other duties as assigned by Healthy Families Supervisor or Program Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. (Non-degreed candidates may be required to fulfill additional training requirements in order to perform the essential functions).
Experience:
• Experience working with or providing services to children and family participants;
• Experience and humility in providing services to culturally diverse communities/families/participants and
acceptance of individual differences
• Experience and willingness to engage in building reflective capacity (e.g., capacity of introspective, communicating
awareness of self in relation to others, recognizing value of supervision, etc.)
• Knowledge of maternal-infant mental health and concepts of child abuse and neglect
• Infant mental health endorsement preferred
Abilities:
• Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
• Ability to build rapport quickly and easily with client families to establish trusting relationships
• Ability to establish positive workplace relationships, function in a team environment, and demonstrate
acceptance of individual differences of colleague
• Bilingual/especially Spanish-speaking abilities are a plus.
Skills:
• Assessment, evaluation, and treatment planning
• Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office, with emphasis on Excel and database management.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
• Pursue professional growth through workshops, classes, reading, and in-service trainings.
• Demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, creativity, and flexibility.
• Maintain boundaries and good working relationships with staff.
• Abide by strict code of confidentiality according to legal and professional standards.
• Maintain a high degree of sensitivity and responsiveness to client and staff needs.
• Carry out agency goals and policies.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in client homes and throughout the community of St Joseph County, some work is required to be completed in an office setting. Assessment of children may involve bending, kneeling, and play activities on the floor. Will need reliable transportation to provide services in the home, attend meetings at locations other than Family & Children’s Center’s corporate offices.
